It might be almost fall for some of us, but for many folks, summer just isn’t going anywhere. The calendar might say September or October but the thermometer still says summer. Regardless of the temperature, it remains to be a great time to clean out your garage. Don’t start procrastinating on this thought just yet. You really need to keep your garage clean. It is healthier for you and your family. It keeps rats and bugs from taking over your garage and then your home. You might actually be able to put your car in there… Yeah, that really would be shocking but we’ll get to that. There are some important tips for cleaning out your garage and we are more than happy to share them with everyone.
Feeling A Little Claustrophobic?
The first thing you need to do is remove all that darn clutter. No, you really don’t need to store all that stuff in your garage. Most of us can’t even fit our vehicles in our garages… That is the primary purpose of a garage is to put a car in. It is the best protection your car or truck can have and you probably have your rarely touched Christmas decor in there. So start by getting rid of your garage clutter or finding somewhere else to store it. If you can’t even see through your garage then it is a fire hazard. Fix it.
A Little Organization Maybe?
This is actually going to be about three tips in one. First off, zone your garage into sections. Your car should have a primary space. Then there’s your workshop if you have one. Finally, storage and other spaces. From there you can figure out how to store what you should keep in your garage. Like tools and certain appliances. From there you can figure out what you need to store said items. Large items might just need to be wrapped up or put in a large storage closet or bin. Small items can be put in boxes, totes, or tool bags.
Labels, Labels Everywhere!
Put a sticker on everything from individual totes and boxes to shelves. It will not only remind you where things go but other people as well. This is important so that your garage doesn’t become one giant landfill again. If you do all this right, then you won’t have to worry so much about cleaning out your garage next summer
