It is probably a lot more than most people think. These days, we do not think that a great business can start in a garage, but many still have over the years. If you are considering a business start-up in your garage but having doubts… Consider the fact that Google started in someone’s garage. That’s right, the internet search engine giant Google started in a garage. Of course, now it is owned by someone on the continent of Asia, but the founder made a fortune off of it before that sale. There are many other large companies that started in garages that might surprise you. Most of us are aware that computer giants Microsoft and Apple started in a garage.
Did you know that Disney Studios started in the Garage of Walt Disney’s uncle? It would be nearly two decades before Walt Disney would draw Mickey Mouse, but that really didn’t matter. The makers of great movies like The Lion King and Moana started in a garage. Just let that sink in for a minute. The guy behind Disney World and Disneyland got his start behind a garage door. There are more traditional businesses that got their start behind garage doors as well. Did you know that Harley-Davidson started in a garage? That does make a little bit more sense. Every biker on the planet probably loves working on their Harley in their own garage.
What Made It Happen?
Well for one, a lot of strong work ethic and determination. No successful business just started that way. Especially not unique and trendsetting businesses. If you want to be a trailblazer in your industry, you’re going to have to put some real effort and thought into it. That is exactly what greats like Bill Gates and Walt Disney did. They knew they had to achieve their dreams and what they would have to do to get them. Walt Disney got turned down thirty plus times for his idea for a theme park. Looking back on that now, is there anything that sounds crazier than someone turning down Walt Disney for anything?
Another thing that helped was that garage door. It certainly did help to have a secure workspace that they could experiment in. Having a proper garage door and a properly secured garage is exactly what they needed to start. Many businesses today still require that for a good start. You certainly are not going on a road trip with a broken down car. So, do not try to start a garage based business with a broken down garage door.
