Keeping Your Garage Air Tight

Have you thought about regulating the air in your garage? Well, you really should because mother nature can wreak havoc on everything in your garage. Even with your garage door closed, humidity can cause metal objects to rust and wooden items to rot. Obviously, this is something you will have to tackle eventually. Doing so will even save you some trouble with your garage door. After all, it gets hit from the outside enough, it does not need to be battered from the inside as well. So, how can you waterproof your garage?

Step One – Understanding

How does air pressure in your garage work? If your garage is open, the pressure to the outside is generally about equal. When you close your garage up, it will become lesser or greater. You want it to be greater so that air is being pushed out and not sucked in. This can be accomplished by sealing your garage. This means all seams, cracks, crevices and holes need to be plugged up appropriately. A small ventilation fan may also be a good idea. Obviously, you want this to push air into your garage from a regulated source like from your home, not from the outside as that would defeat the purpose. Installing an A/C system would work as well, but who wants to do that?

Weatherproofing Your Garage

This is much simpler than it sounds but still can be costly if not done right the first time. If you have a roll up garage door, then it is much better to have a professional do it. Each seam has to be sealed in a way that prevents air from coming in and maintains the garage doors functionality. If you have a side door, this also has to be properly sealed. Windows also must be checked for air leaks. Finally, you want to repair any holes or cracks in your garage that may cause a pressure leak. This isn’t hard to do. A little spackle, caulk and elbow grease should get the job done. That and good attention to detail. Don’t leave anything out.

You’d Better Call Somebody!

If all of this sounds like a tall order, that is because it is! Who even has time to do all of this? Maybe you’ve worked hard all your life and your body just isn’t capable of doing it anymore. That is alright because there are people you can call to get all of this done quickly, and with ease.
