Cape Coral Police are continuing to investigate a crash that sent a 74-year-old Cape man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to Cape Coral Police, a man is suffering from life-threatening injuries after his vehicle pinned him against a garage door frame at his home.
Wednesday, May 22, at around 6:39 a.m., Cape Coral Police responded to a call for service about a one-vehicle traffic crash at the 3300 block of S.W. 25th Court.
CCPD says the man initially parked in the garage of the home if the driver of began to back out of the garage but stopped halfway out and then hauled back into the garage for an unknown reason and ceased momentarily.
According to the CCD, the accident occurred when the resident started to back the 2017 Lexus RX350 he was driving out of the garage for an unknown reason, he stopped halfway out and then pulled the vehicle back into the garage.
Police report that the driver may have been attempting to exit the Lexus but had placed it in reverse instead of park.
As he was exiting the vehicle and if he shot his foot off the brake, the Lexus began rolling backward out of the garage. The driver’s door grabbed the driver backward, police said, and pinned him against the edge of the open garage door frame.
CCPD says the driver may have been attempting to exit the driver’s door of his vehicle but had placed the vehicle’s gear into reverse rather than park.
As the driver exited the driver’s door, and his foot came off the brake pedal, his vehicle began to roll backward out of the garage. The open driver’s door swept the driver back and pinned him against the border of the open garage door frame.
The man suffered severe life-threatening injuries in the crash and was trauma alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he is now in a critical condition.
