Why Your Garage Door Rollers Squeak & What You Can Do

Have you ever heard you garage door roller squeak from time to time? Do they just squeak all the time? Well, that is a bad sign. They should not squeak when your garage door is not in motion. Plenty of garage doors squeaks when in motion, though. The problem is that such noises can be a sign of a bigger problem. Think of it like when a Tornado Watch is issued for your area. You plan for a possible tornado. This is the same concept. Your garage door making unnecessary noise is a warning that something is going wrong.

Are Your Garage Door Rollers Loose?

That is definitely the first thing you want to check. If you have loose nuts and bolts anywhere on your garage door, they need to be tightened. They may also need to be replaced if they are stripped. The second thing you need to check is if you garage door rollers need to be replaced. If they do, why? If your garage door rollers are not that old and are severely worn down, then something else is indeed wrong. It could be that your garage door is off balance or that your garage door tracks need to be replaced. A lot of things can wear down your garage door rollers quicker. You just have to figure out what it is. That is not always the easiest task.

Consider Nylon Garage Door Rollers

Even if your garage door rollers do not need to be replaced right now, this is a good idea. Nylon garage door rollers are a lot quieter than metal garage door rollers. They are the one solution that doesn’t require a lot of money, either. This makes them a pretty safe bet for the future as well. The squeaking caused by garage door rollers can be just like nails scraping a chalkboard. You really don’t ever want to hear it. You don’t want to hear it because it sounds bad and it is a bad thing to hear in general.

It is a good idea to replace older style garage door parts like this on a regular basis. It might be easier, in the long run, to just have a new garage door installed. If that is not what you want, though then this will work as well. Making your garage door more economical in general is a good idea. It saves you money on your electrical bill as well as on future garage door repairs. It is just a suggestion, though.
