It is a common problem among garage door owners. There are mice, or worse, rats living in your garage. Sure, some people find mice to be cute but they are still annoying. That, and they can definitely scare the wits out of people who don’t know they are there. Mice eat things you do not intend for them to eat. Sometimes, they cause property damage to things that you will end up paying for. That brings us to a very sensitive topic for some people… Getting rid of them and keeping them out of your garage. In most cases, this does mean killing them. Honestly, there are not many good ways to do it without killing them. Worse, it is then even harder to keep them out. Thankfully, we have some solutions for both ideas.
Not Into Conventional Mouse Traps?
Well, obviously you can just go and buy the typical glue and snap traps. A lot of people these days do not want to use those, though. On top of making the mice suffer more than they need too, God forbid you to forget to check them. Anything that died a week ago is going to stink. That is not an easy smell to get out of your garage. So, what else is there?
Live Traps
Fresh Cab
Animal Repellents
The live traps are probably the best deal. Not only will they not kill the mice if properly used, but they can be reused! Which if you don’t read the next part of this article, you will be doing. From there you have Fresh Cab. This is a rodent repellent that makes mice living in your garage want to leave and it keeps new ones away. It is 98% biodegradable and it is completely safe to use around the house in general. It is approved by the EPA. Finally, you have regular animal repellents like moth balls. Those things really stink, though. Most animal repellents do, actually. Not the best of your options.
Keeping Them Out
First off, check for little mouse holes that they may have made to gain entry into your garage. From there, check all the entrance ways including your garage door. Make sure they have not chewed their way through the weather stripping. From there you can clean your garage. Mice love dirty spaces that they can travel through discretely. Speaking of traveling like 007… Trim the grass and any shrubbery around your home. This just allows them to get really close to your home before working on a way to get in! Above all else, don’t leave your garage door open for long periods of time.
